November Walk Around The Lake

My walk along the trail around the lake this weekend made me realize that we have reached the peak color for the 2013 leaf season.  However the evergreens will keep their colors while the other trees with leaves of yellow, red and gold will eventually fall to the ground. Fall is a great time of the year to be outdoors!

  1. A stunning assortment of pictures, Mary! The gristmill draws me back again and again; my great-grandfather’s foster parents and siblings lived in a small house near a gristmill somewhere in New England for a year while they were also building a cabin nearby. His stories, retold by my grandfather, were rich descriptions of the smells and sounds inside the mill, but also one heart-breaking account of a child who drowned while the others were each busy with specific chores.

    • Thanks for commenting and sharing your story. My grandfather once upon a time had a place that he developed creating a small community for about thirty workers where they had buildings for blacksmithing, lumbering, apple orchards, corn fields and a gristmill for grinding corn and flour. But, during the depression the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) bought/forced people off their land to make way for the future, covering it with a lake.

  2. Very nice photos, wonderful colors

  3. We don’t have an actual water mill anymore on the Mill Pond which borders my house, but we do have all the colorful trees and wildlife. I love the ever-changing nature of the landscape along the shore. Color this year was quite brilliant but is now on its way out.

  4. Beautiful area. Brings back many wonderful memories.

  5. A fine collection of Fall (Autumn 🙂 ) colours/photos. Interesting to see how the seasons are progressing around the world. We woke to our first hard frost this morning – winter is waiting in the wings.

  6. Fall’s my favorite season but it’s sad when Fall reaches it’s peak in color cause bare trees is just around the corner.

  7. The gristmill is a gem, what a beautiful setting and lovely colours!

  8. Beautiful scenery. I love that waterwheel!
